Below are statements from the candidates (Arthur Coddington & Paul Kenny) for the “Executive Director” position on the FPA Board of Directors.  This position is elected for a 3-year term.

Arthur Coddington, USA

I believe almost everyone who plays Frisbee is a freestyler. They just don’t know it yet.

As your Executive Director, I want us to help those tens of millions of people discover the joys of freestyle. Whether your goal is to jam with new players more often or to see freestyle in the Olympics some day, increasing participation in our sport is what matters most.

I am a 16-time FPA World Champion and have been fortunate to represent freestyle on international media. I also have unique insights on the business of our sport from my experience leading the Frisbee brand at Wham-O.

I have volunteered for the FPA in some capacity for almost the entire span of my playing career, including several years serving as Executive Director. I created the freestyle rankings, and I led efforts to set standards for competitions in order to protect players and create clarity for event organizers. I believe in the FPA’s role as player union and the governing body of our sport.

My philosophy is to be informed and inspired by the past while designing effective strategies for the future.

As your Executive Director, my focuses will be:

* Expanding worldwide participation in all levels of freestyle.

* Expanding the number of freestylers actively volunteering in FPA programs. The more people who help, the more we get done!

* Supporting the growth of robust jam and competition communities worldwide

* Supporting players in learning to play at whatever level they most enjoy

* Ensuring the FPA provides strong governance for freestyle, including being a transparent organization connected to the desires of its members.

With your help, we can make all these goals real.

Thank you for considering me for this important position.

Paul Kenny, USA

Hey all!  I am running for Executive Director (ED).  I was ED when we brought the Worlds to Europe the first time and resolved long lasting problems that saw our finances become greatly enhanced.  I am retired so would be able to put in ample time going forward.  All of you know how important this sport is to me.    I know how important it is to you.  I give you my word I will be a great steward of our sport.  My heart, soul and passion is behind this.

We all want to spread the jam and the FPA is critical to that goal.  How do we expose our sport to more players that will want to engage for a lifetime?  We are a small sport and need to take advantage of the disc family in any way we can.  I would like to see much more media exposure and make our sport more audience friendly.  How do we take better advantage media opportunities?  How do we keep costs reasonable? These are some of the focus points for my energy if you want me to be ED.

To be truthful, I will need your help.  Everyone has a role to play to make our sport better.  We are all in this together.

Jamily is a great word but more powerfully I think of all of us as FAMILY!  This sport saved my life and gave me a powerful identity.  You are my best friends in the world!  I owe it to the sport to give back as much as I can.  Let’s do this together!!
