Fellow Jammers!

The FPA and the New York FPAW organizing committee would like your feedback on the following proposal. That is, to move 2016 FPAW to a Tuesday-Friday tournament August 2-5, with the finals on Friday August 5 in Central Park. On the day after the finals, Saturday August 6 will be a special Spread The Jam Day in Central Park’s Sheep Meadow. We understand the issues involved but believe this is the best opportunity for everyone concerned. This is the only way to connect the energy from the tournament to Sheep Meadow and its iconic place in freestyle. By moving one day, we go from 0 days to 2 days in Central Park.

Your input is strongly requested. Please spread this request to all freestylers you know who may not be as electronically connected.

Below is a message from FPAW organizer Daniel O’Neill.

Thank you.

From Daniel O’Neill:

We recently heard back that we were granted a permit for Mineral Springs in Central Park, the plot of land directly north of Sheep Meadow, for Friday August 5th, 2016. In many ways this is a HUGE victory for us, and the space is even better than the Bandshell due to its softer ground and proximity to water fountains, vendors, bathrooms, and of course, the meadow. They weren’t able to give us a permit for Saturday the 6th, so we can’t use Mineral Springs or hold tournament rounds on that day, though we will be able to jam in Sheep Meadow.

As it stands, we will not be able to have the tournament exactly as we had planned: August 3-5 in Brooklyn, with August 6th in Central Park.

So we would like to put forward:

NEW tournament dates August 2nd-5th, with a community-wide SPREAD THE JAM day on August 6th.

  • Four day tournament, with the finals on Friday August 5th in Central Par
  • Saturday is a designated “Spread the Jam” day, a full freestyle take-over of NYC to increase awareness and grow the sport
    • Lessons and demonstrations for kids and adults
    • Spon-heinous jams all around the city
    • Legends Reunion Party and Hall of Fame Launch
